Alas, I’m back home in Fairfield.
After a few months of buzzing around SoCal, it feels so good to be in my hometown again. I’ve been spending the week taking in all the familiar roads, amazing restaurants, and of course, one of my favorite coffee shops.
Tucked away in the back of the Brick Walk plaza in downtown Fairfield, lies Shearwater Coffee Bar. The open layout and long bar top are equally inviting, and the smell of their freshly roasted, organic coffee is like a warm hug for the soul.
This Fairfield location just celebrated their one-year anniversary, but Shearwater’s roasting location in Trumbull has been a town favorite since 2013. There’s no cafe, but you can pick up their delicious coffee by the pound!
After finding Shearwater on Yelp last year, it quickly became one of my favorite spots. It’s a wonderful place to get work done, with long, community-style tables (and power outlets – bless!), illuminated with plenty of natural light. Small 2-tops fill the rest of the space – the perfect spot for rainy-day latte dates like this one!
Shearwater has your usual selection of espresso drinks and coffees, but they also have chai lattes (one of my favorites around), a selection of iced teas, and Nitro Cold Brew. I have to be honest, I don’t stray much from my usual latte or chai, but next time I’m totally trying one of their pour-overs.
This place gets MAJOR bonus points for:
1. The round mugs (it’s the little things guys, round mugs are my jam)
2. The baked goods.
They always have a selection of bagels and treats, and let me tell you, the cookies…. wowza. I’m partial to the salted caramel, but the chocolate chip is a go-to, too. Oh, and the lemon white-chocolate biscotti? Yeah. Get one.
I’ve yet to try their avocado toast, or anything else on their savory menu, but a quick look at their Instagram shows that it’s definitely worth a try.
Another thing I love about Shearwater?
They have live music. Nothing warmed my heart like stepping into this cafe during the winter and being greeted by some mellow music, and the warm, quiet hum of a busy coffee shop.
So grab your book, your laptop, or your favorite person, and check this place out. I’m confident it’ll become a new favorite for you, too!
