California Updates and Favorite Photos

Soooo I know I’ve been kind of MIA since I’ve landed in LA. I’ve just been so busy taking in all this wonderful city has to offer!

Kidding. I actually struggled with a bit of writer’s block and a mild identity crisis, but that’s what these soul-searching adventures are for, right?

Anyway, I’m back on the wagon, identity = found, and motivated as all hell to not only continue building this blog but really LIVE this summer. I fell into quite the slump (read more on that Summer Slump here) and spent a lot of time in my room these first few weeks. BUT I’ve ditched my comfy cocoon and am finally taking advantage of this city and state. Here are some of my favorite photos and favorite places!

Venice Beach

The people-watching on the boardwalk is second to none, but the views don’t end there. The stunning coastline, iconic skatepark, and creative graffiti all add to Venice’s charm.

The Venice Canals are another must-visit spot. Small, eclectic houses line these canals, many equipped with a dream of a back patio, kayaks, and hammocks.

Pacific Palisades

Nestled between Santa Monica and Malibu, the Pacific Palisades area has gorgeous mountain views, and an equally stunning beach.

Santa Monica

Santa Monica Beach/ Pier is only a short walk away from where I’m staying this summer which couldn’t be more convenient! The pier is definitely your basic tourist trap, with $9 ice cream and $10 tickets to the ferris wheel, but breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Plus, there’s always fresh fruit and churros for sale so there’s really nothing to complain about!

My favorite coffee shop that bumps Kendrick Lamar and charges $7 for an iced chai (In their defense, it is homemade and made with almond milk)

This summer has been just the dream I hoped it would be.

I’ve been adventuring and exploring, seeing all of the beautiful sights California has to offer.

I work a few days a week at a restaurant in Westwood Village, walking distance from where I’m living. I’ve also really updated my lifestyle when it comes to my health, eating so much healthier than I was used to at home. That, paired with all of the walking I’m doing, and the free week of Hot Yoga I tried (post coming soon!), ya girl is down 15 pounds! (insert dancer emoji). I’m feeling so much more confident now than I did when I first got here, and am excited to go home with my new habits in place!

Also, I’m appreciating all of the differences between living in LA and living in my hometown. I’m so used to the suburbs, but the city life really is charming in it’s own special way. As frustrating as it is sometimes to not have a car out here, there’s also something about walking to get the groceries, and walking to work. It’s provoking a certain mindfulness and slowness that I often ignored at home. Some days I truly wish I could hop back in my truck and save some time when running errands, but I’m being present in each moment here. These morning walks to work are my “quiet time” and I try to really silence my thoughts and enjoy where I am, the feeling of the sun on my skin, and this opportunity I made for myself.

With all of this being said, I’m cutting my trip a little short!

This adventure has been wonderful and so productive in my journey of #GracefulGrowth. But, I’m eager to go back home with this motivation and inspiration. I’m ready to get myself set back up for this upcoming school year. And, find a job that suits my schedule and goals a bit better than the ones I had this spring. There’s no sense getting all settled in a routine in California if I have to eventually leave!

So friends and family, I will see y’all in 3 short weeks!

Love,

Laney
