30 No-Frill Ways to Practice Self Care

30 No-Frill Ways to Practice Self Care

Self Care means a lot of things to a lot of people.

The ever-popular face mask, bubble bath, chocolate combo is a pamper night staple, but that’s not the only way to practice Self Care. Sometimes, it’s the difficult tasks, or those that urge you to step out of your comfort zone that do you the most good. They might not feel the best in the moment, but in the long run, you’re better off.

So here I have for you a list, my friends. A list of some alternate ways to practice Self Care, without a bath bomb or glass of wine in sight.

30 Best Ways to Practice Self Care

  1. Delete their number. Not in a petty way, but a taking-care-of-yourself way.
  2. Clean your car.
  3. Organize and optimize your workspace. See tips on that here.
  4. Make your bedroom a place for relaxation, not work/homework.
  5. Clean up your following/friends lists. Unfollow/Unfriend those who do not inspire you, encourage you, or teach you.
  6. Look for a new job. Especially if you’re currently unhappy in your position. Even if you are happy, it’s fun to see what else is out there, what potential options you have for the future.
  7. Pay those lingering bills (Ahem, that vehicle tax & those doctor’s bills)
  8. Have a No-Media or No-Technology day. Unplug for a bit.
  9. Write in a journal. Try this exercise.
  10. Do whatever it is that makes you happy.30 Ways to Practice Self Care
  11. Write letters. To your family, to your friends, your future self, old self, Santa, whoever. It’s incredibly therapeutic, even if they never get sent.
  12. Cook yourself a meal. A real meal, put down the box of pasta. Some of my favorite recipes come from Gimme Some Oven.
  13. Get yourself to the gym, or at least outside. Exercise = Endorphins. Sunshine = Vitamin D = Endorphins. Endorphins = Good.
  14. Go grocery shopping. Fill your house with nutrients and healthy foods.
  15. Go to your local bookstore. Even if you don’t get anything, it can be inspiring to see all of the things that you could learn, one day.
  16. Delegate or delay certain tasks. No one can do it all. And it doesn’t all have to be done today.
  17. Download the Calm or Headspace apps. They’re perfect for meditation, or simply clearing your mind so you can focus on the task at hand.
  18. Start a Gratitude List. There is so much evidence on how practicing gratitude can positively impact your life and your self esteem, just check out this HuffPost article.
  19. Create a bucket list. Find some things to work towards, or look forward to. It will make all the difference.
  20. Have those conversations you’ve been avoiding. Whether it be simply giving your grandma a phone call, or telling a friend you’re unhappy with how they’re treating you. Just get it off of your chest, and it’ll get off of your mind.
  21. Write down your strengths. Celebrate them.30 Ways to Practice Self Care
  22. Write down your weaknesses. Understand them.
  23. Finish your laundry. And put it away. That’s the most common form of clutter, and it can so easily be avoided.
  24. Let go of those people & situations that no longer serve you. Everyone who comes into our life teaches us something or gives us something, and when they’re service is done, it’s time to move on. Odds are, you’ve completed your service to them, too. Let go, and let eachother thrive.
  25. Take a social media cleanse. As often as it’s used for good, it’s used for evil. Delete those insecurities and comparisons for a while.
  26. Take an honest look at your finances. Make a budget for yourself. Make some money-related goals.
  27. Respond to those emails, and call those people back. While you’re at it, call your doctor and dentist, too.
  28. Buy yourself a present. Whether that present be a smoothie from your favorite place, a bouquet of flowers, or a hotel room in the city for the weekend, treat yourself. You deserve it.
  29. For heavens sake, put down the Netflix, and pick up a book. Trust me, I know how nice it is to just melt into your couch, mindlessly eating popcorn and watching The Office (for the fourth time), but stimulate your brain a little. Put it to work. It likes it.
  30. Take that leap. Whatever it is you’re afraid to do, be it leave a job, a partner, start a new relationship, launch your business, move states, just do it already. Life is too damn short.

Take care, friends.
